Come From Far

Client: New Kingston

For their fourth studio album, A Kingston Story: Come From Far, NYC-based progressive reggae group New Kingston wanted artwork that would capture their journey—a celebration of heritage, resilience, and the pride of their Jamaican roots.

Role: Art Director, Photographer

Creative Approach

I collaborated closely with the band, conducting in-depth interviews to understand their family’s story of emigration, their Jamaican heritage, and the album's theme: honoring the past while looking forward to the future. A recurring visual element was the Jamaica Railway—a powerful symbol of both movement and reflection in their journey—which inspired a custom-built set that mimicked the experience of gazing out a train window.

Design Execution

The album cover centered on each band member’s face, framed in a composition that suggests a “face-off” at first glance but reveals a calm, contemplative family moment. This tension in the design reflects their introspective journey, balancing pride in their accomplishments with a quiet anticipation for the road ahead.

Deliverables

I provided creative direction and photography for the album release, producing artwork, tour assets, and press photos that aligned with the album’s introspective and celebratory themes.
