Build Your Resume
Client: Google
Google Employment Brand set out to support job seekers with clear, actionable resources for building strong resumes, aiming to demystify the application process and empower candidates with practical, approachable advice. As the Art Director for this animation project, I guided the creative direction, developed detailed storyboards, and crafted motion graphics that simplified resume creation. My goal was to transform what can be an overwhelming task into an engaging, step-by-step experience, providing job seekers with both the confidence and tools to build an impactful resume.
Role: Art Director, Illustrator, Motion Design
Challenges and Solutions
One of the primary challenges was to make resume-building—a typically intimidating task—feel both achievable and engaging in a short animation. I wanted to avoid information overload while still providing practical guidance, and took a building blocks approach to illustrate clear, actionable steps.
I designed and used an approachable, inviting visual language, while maintaining to brand standards, and incorporated animations that felt friendly and non-intimidating, like smooth transitions and playful icons, to ensure the content felt accessible and relatable.
Focusing on Key Resume-Building Aspects
We chose to emphasize fundamental tips on structuring and formatting a resume rather than delving into specifics, which helped keep the animation light and easy to follow. I worked closely with our team to break down the process into three key steps—organization, prioritization, and personalization—so the animation could reinforce confidence without overwhelming viewers.
Approach
My approach to art direction focused on creating visuals that aligned with Google’s friendly, supportive brand while also staying professional and credible. I leaned into Google’s clean design aesthetic but added approachable illustrations and animations to reflect the friendly tone we wanted for job seekers. We held weekly check-ins with stakeholders to present concepts, get feedback, and ensure our visuals and message were aligned with Google’s mission of helping users in meaningful ways.
