Real Voices
Client: Google Assistant
Google Assistant’s Real Voices initiative was designed to share the authentic stories of individuals from historically underrepresented communities in the U.S., reaching audiences via Google Assistant-enabled devices. Our team collaborated with Google to produce voice-forward collections for Asian Pacific American Heritage, Pride, and Hispanic Heritage Months, aiming to celebrate diverse perspectives and the complex intersections of personal identity.
Role: Art Director, Interviewer, Audio Editor
Creative Approach
To ensure authentic representation, we focused on sourcing, vetting, and interviewing participants across a spectrum of backgrounds. Our approach prioritized age diversity by including individuals from multiple generations—Baby Boomers, Gen X, Millennials, and Gen Z—as well as geographical diversity, representing voices from the Northeast, South, Midwest, and West.
For the Asian Pacific American and Hispanic Heritage collections, we featured participants from a wide range of ethnic backgrounds, including Southeast Asian, East Asian, Desi, Caribbean, Central American, and South American communities. For Pride Month, we gathered voices across a range of sexual orientations and gender identities, including Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Non-Binary, and Queer identities.
Impact
Through Real Voices, we recorded over 60 unique stories that now amplify the experiences of Asian Pacific American, Hispanic American, and LGBTQIA communities across every Google Assistant-enabled device in the U.S. This initiative broadened the cultural narratives accessible to millions, expanding the understanding of what it means to be American.
